Biography of John Flaherty


John Flaherty has been involved in music and educational ministry for twenty-seven years as an educator, elementary school principal, music director, liturgy director, and composer.
 
        
He has taught at all levels from elementary to graduate, and is on the Campus Ministry Team at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he serves as the Director of Campus Ministry, Director of Liturgy and Music and teaches in the Center for Religion and Spirituality.

John has served as the Chairperson of the Liturgy Committee and Music Director for the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress since 1991.
He has been a contributing writer for Pastoral Music, Modern Liturgy, Pastoral Music, Our Family, and Hosanna magazines. John has served on the Editorial Boards of Table, Hosanna, and Modern Liturgy. He has performed on the recordings of Bob Hurd, Marty Haugen, Rory Cooney, Gary Daigle, Jaime Cortez and Rufino Zaragoza, O.F.M. World Library Publications and GIA Publications publish his compositions and recordings.
His credits include scoring motion picture soundtracks for Lorimar and ABC-TV.
He has worked extensively with the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops including having served as the music director national conferences, Encuentro 2000 and Jubilee Justice.

John has been married to his wife, Kathleen, for 18 years and they have five children.
