Contrary to our opinions and preferences, the answer isn't Palestrina or Gregorian Chant; Traditional music or contemporary; GIA, WLP, or OCP; conferences and trainings by LA Congress, LIFETEEN, NPM, St. Meinrad, Music Ministry Alive, or God forbid, the Leading With Passion! - Worship Music Conference + Festival. The answer isn't Hurd, Haugen, Haas, True, Farrell, Rubalcava, Cortez, or God forbid, Angrisano, Booth, Bolduc or Manibusan.

Music in Liturgy is about presence. Full, conscious, active, passionate and
participating presence in celebrating the Pascal mystery. Bam!

He has been called the greatest storyteller of all time. He told stories, He answered questions with stories, and He understood the story's power to by-pass left-brain resistance to truth. His name was Jesus, and He was the greatest teacher to ever walk this earth. Join us as we explore the power of storytelling.

Percussion can add a vibrant dimension to liturgy and ritual. It draws in and appeals to participants in a unique way. The challenge, however, is to use percussion in a way that is appropriate to the context of liturgy. When does it make sense to use the simple strike of a prayer bowl, the heartbeat of a frame drum, or the percolating rhythms of bongos and congas? How can percussion enhance not only the music, but the readings as well? Even the most capable percussionists can be challenged by the needs of liturgical music and settings. Participants can bring their community’s own songs to this practical workshop and enhance their current repertoire with percussion in addition to learning new ideas.

A workshop on the role of music in the prayer of the gathered community. Topics include the music minister, the role of the cantor, building an ensemble, music selection, the liturgical year, rites of initiation, the introductory rite, Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist, Liturgy of the Hours.

UN NUEVO COLOR A
LAS ALABANZAS “TRADICIONALES”

Presenter: Dolores Gomez
biography

This workshop will demonstrate ways to take traditional songs and make them new again, using simple rhythmic changes. We will also work on vocal techniques to help you achieve the best sound for your choir or ensemble. "Passionately" doesn't necessarily mean louder.
